Morocco with Shefaly Ravula

7-14 November 2024

Morocco with Shefay Ravula: dates

Imagine ancient alleyways in blushing pink stone, sprawling markets crammed with carpets and spices, calls to prayer piped out from ancient minarets. Now picture yourself atop a camel, riding through the vast dunes of the desert in a scene right out of a movie. This is where we’ll find ourselves with Certified Physician Assistant and global foods cooking instructor and educator, Shefaly Ravula, PA-C. This adventurous road trip will take us from Marrakech through the Atlas Mountains and deep into the sand dunes of the Erg Chebbi desert - a journey to excite, inspire and remember. Are you ready for it?

*Please note that there is a fair amount of driving in order to arrive at the magnificent Erg Chebbi desert. We will be transported by private 17-seat minibus to and from the foot of the dunes, then 4x4 jeeps into the desert and to our luxury camp. Driving time will be four to five hours each day for two days to the desert and then back again (for a total of about 10 hours each way), plus stops at some of the most beautiful and significant cultural and natural sites in Morocco, including the Tizi n'Tichka pass, Ait BenHaddou, Ouarzazate, the Skoura Oasis, Boumalme Dades and Todra Gorge. There is of course yet another mode of transportation we must not fail to mention: camels! On our first morning in the desert, we will travel in a camel caravan led by cameleers (anyone not keen to ride may walk alongside).

Highlights:

  • semi-formal workshops with Shefaly Ravula, PA-C on culinary medicine and holistic gut health

  • a five day/four night excursion into the desert, with two nights in a beautiful camp set in the dunes

  • visits to important cultural heritage sites and areas of spectacular beauty

  • camel riding, sand boarding

  • a cooking class with local women

  • delicious local food

Shefaly Ravula, PA-C is the founder of Precision Metabolic Health, a virtual telehealth practice, which at its core uses a culinary medicine toolkit for digestive and metabolic health optimization. With a background in years practicing conventional gastroenterology as well as a cooking instructor and nutrition coach, she intertwined the two to create Precision Metabolic Health. Shefaly helps guide patients in a medical and nutrition philosophy that is an intersection of integrative/functional medicine, precision medicine, and the burgeoning field of nutrigenomics. The foundation of it all is "food as medicine" and she simultaneously launched the Food-as-Medicine Academy, a virtual cooking academy teaching nutrition WITH cooking--and learning to apply it in the kitchen. Precision Metabolic has a variety of service options for all states in the USA and globally, as we are a virtual practice.
